DANVILLE — Organizers of the 18th annual Community Day are encouraging all Danville residents to visit Lincoln Park on July 10 for food, fun and community entertainment.
The city's human relations commission and the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee are hosting the annual event from 2:30 to 5 p.m. July 10 in Lincoln Park.
The event is open to the public with free admission and free food that includes barbecue, beverages and ice cream. Activities for children ages 4-12 years old will include a bounce house.
The entertainment lineup features Danville musician Lee Reed Jr.; Grupo Celeste Nortenio, a musical group from Danville; the Second Church of Christ's Ministry in Motion directed by Michelle Garrison; and Hostyle Gospel, a musical group from Georgetown.
Mary Thompson, chairman of the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee, said the event's mission is to bring the entire Danville community together, and she believes that mission has been accomplished through the years as attendance numbers have grown from about 50 to 1,000 people last year. She said it's an opportunity for all citizens to gather and get to know one another and be neighborly.
